Ballet
The classes are designed to stimulate the young child's natural desire to dance. Carefully planned curriculum is presented in a fun, entertaining way that enhances coordination, musicality and creative ability.
Classes are divided by level based on age and teacher recommendations. Proper training and alignment for a dancer cannot be achieved in only attending one class per week, therefore all students from Grade 1 and up are required to participate in at least 2 ballet classes weekly.
The Oakville School of Dance provides a friendly, nurturing atmosphere where each child's creative talent is exposed and incorporated into the art of classical ballet. The students are eager to learn and take great pride with their accomplishments. Whether a student wishes to work toward a career in dance, or enjoys dancing as an extra-curricular activity, the young dancer's changing body becomes a finely tuned instrument which deserves only the finest and most proper instruction. Only a truly experienced, professional teacher can guide a young dancer through the gradual and careful progress of their training. Our faculty concentrates on developing long lean lines, a strong technical foundation, freedom of movement, and the execution of movements with style and grace.
We welcome enthusiastic students who enjoy the benefits from the traditions of a fine training in a nurturing environment. |
Baby Ballet, Pre-Ballet, Pre- Primary and Primary classes
These classes are specifically designed to develop the motor skills of the 3 to 6 year old, and to prepare them for the traditional class by instilling poise, etiquette, confidence and a love for the art of dance. Emphasis on the lower levels concentrates on the pleasure of movement and musicality with the development of technique, artistry, and self- discipline evolving throughout the levels. For Pre-Primary and Primary levels, the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum is followed.
Grades 1 - 8
Grades 1 - 8 follow the curriculum of the Royal Academy of dance and children are prepared for these assessments and examinations. Alongside the classical ballet training, the student is introduced to character work (Theatrical folk Dance) and Free Movement (an introduction to Modern dance). |

Jazz
To compliment the training within the Oakville School of Dance, Jazz classes are offered to benefit both ballet students, and those who wish to participate solely in a Jazz training. These exciting and upbeat classes are offered to dancers aged 8 and older. Jazz greatly enhances the student's range of motion, flexibility, style and clarity of movement. Students develop a strong technical base while experiencing a broad range of choreographic styles from contemporary, to lyrical and hip hop.
